The truth is that Social Work was not even an option for me.
First of all, I wanted to study political science, but in my region, because I was 17 when I graduated from school. This degree wasn't there, so I studied law.
I didn't like it, so I froze and since I didn't know what to study, I entered social work in my region.
The truth is that I fell in love with the profession in college, before I didn't know what it was all about. I thought of Social Work as an alternative, while I was looking for my vocation, but finally I stayed.
Finally, I switched to the "Universidad de Chile" because I liked its approach better, it is more critical than "Santo Tomás". Also, the atmosphere is nicer, and the professors are more understanding.
I think what I like most is the active look of this social science, always focused on intervening in reality, even if you are doing research, the orientation is always towards action.
I would like there to be more opportunities to work in public policies, because few social workers design programs or plans; the discipline is generally limited to the execution of policies.
